Midsomer Murders is the longest-running drama in the UK. Even though it was the 22nd season – the show did well and gathered good reviews.  Stats have not dropped down, and that is after two decades of the show airing.

“Everyone is excited to get back to work. Sadly there won’t be hugging and kissing on the set as usual,” Neil Dudgeon added, “with all the safety protocols but hopefully, we can all keep each other safe and shoot another great series.

”Executive producer Michael Buck also released a statement about releasing another season “We are very pleased ITV has asked us to produce more Midsomer Murders. We will have our signature mix of tantalizing mysteries, wonderful guest stars, and stunning locations while also maintaining a safe working environment for all our cast and crew in these current challenging circumstances.

”With guest stars, Keith Allen and John Thomson are expected to be in season 22. The filming of season 22 was affected by the coronavirus restrictions.

Jason Hughes left the midsomer murders because he had to take care of his health and age. He didn’t want any more responsibility for what happened, so when it came down to solving that mystery once and for all; Jason walked away from everything – never looking back!

 

Where is Midsomer Murders filmed?

The filming for Midsomer Murders takes place in and around Herefordshire. Many recognizable landmarks can be found throughout this gorgeous region. Cradley Heath Beach is where Charlotte, a guest character, washes up after being shipwrecked. Blorenge houses an ancient stone circle featured prominently near the series end.

While the show is set in England, it is also filmed in the village of Bornstedt in Germany. The town was chosen for its picturesque setting and lack of modern amenities, which helped to create the look and feel of a typical English village. 

In addition, the villagers were very welcoming and helpful, making it easy for the production team to work around them. As a result, Bornstedt has become an essential part of Midsomer Murders, and its name has even been mentioned on the show.

Midsomer Murders Season 23 – Cast

Detective Chief Inspector Thomas “Tom” Geoffrey Barnaby played by John Nettles, uses a style of methodical and fair in his investigation as he used to work in MI6, he can easily find any clues and is detail-oriented during the investigation.

He always thinks of the safety of his family as they were often involved in his job especially investigating big crimes.

Detective Sergeant Gavin Troy played by Daniel Casey is Bernaby’s trusted assistant in solving crimes. Although he is a bit of a troublemaker, Tom still copes with him and they form a friendship while solving crimes in England’s deadly village.

Doctor George Bullard played by Barry Jackson, is a resident pathologist and a good friend of Tom. He contributed a lot in solving the crimes in his professional skill.

Detective Chief Inspector John Barnaby played by Neil Dudgeon. In replacement for his older cousin, Tom was transferred to Midsomer to investigate his older cousin’s unfinished investigation.

Sarah Barnaby is played by Fiona Dolma, John Barnaby’s wife and headmistress of a secondary school.

Joyce Barnaby played by Jane Wymark, Tom Barnaby’s wife has issues with her husband being a workaholic but still tries to understand her husband.

Midsomer Murders is not necessarily recommended for children, as it has an age rating of 12+ and contains a fair amount of every type of sexuality. Some episodes involve adultery in relationships which can lead to coarse language or graphic scenes.
